Objectifs du programme

Le Master TCLoc est un Master à distance qui s'adresse à des professionnels de la traduction et de la rédaction technique souhaitant se spécialiser dans les secteurs en pleine expansion que sont la communication technique et la localisation (adaptation linguistique, culturelle et technique d'un produit à un marché local).
Les cours sont dispensés entièrement en anglais par des enseignants et intervenants issus des milieux de la communication technique, de la localisation, de la gestion de projet, des technologies web et de la communication visuelle.
Les enseignements sont organisés en séminaires sur une plateforme pédagogique en ligne, auxquels s'ajoutent deux regroupements optionnels sur Strasbourg. Le Master TCloc permet également d'obtenir la certification professionnelle "Technical Communicator Professional Level" délivré par la tekom.


The Master in Technical Communication and Localization (TCLoc) is a year-long, distance-learning master’s program, taught entirely in English by experts in the fields of technical communication, localization, project management, web technologies, and visual communication.
The TCLoc Master’s is a career-oriented program specially designed for professionals wishing to further their education. It is also the first program in Europe to combine both a master’s degree and the tekom “Technical Communicator (tekom) Professional Level” certificate.


Throughout the year, TCLoc students participate in a series of online courses. These seminars consist of a combination of carefully planned teaching materials and exercises. Our instructors host these seminars on the Moodle distance learning platform. In addition, a number of optional, real-time video conferences with instructors allow participants to share any questions or concerns they may have. Participants also have the opportunity to attend two on-campus meetings in Strasbourg.

Compétences à acquérir

  • Critically analyze and evaluate the context and requirements of an information product prior to its creation (including normative requirements and technical standards),
  • Write technical documentation in English,
  • Understand and master complex localization processes, notably in technical documentation for IT products,
  • Implement strategies for creating information products,
  • Understand the principles of, and concepts behind, online documentation,
  • Identify and master the different stages of information development,
  • Manage technical documentation and localization projects,
  • Integrate translation and localization into a project plan,
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of the main tools and languages used for creating websites,
  • Produce clear, effective visual communication for professional audiences.

Stage et projet tutoré

Working experience in one of the fields required. Project work to be carried out in a team.

Modalités d'inscription

Applications throughout the year :
  • Step 1: Complete the online application : https://mastertcloc.unistra.fr/admissions/apply-now/
  • Step 2: Specify whether you are applying for VAPP (see our website). This step involves completing a separate application form.
  • Step 3: After an initial short-listing phase, you will be invited for a Skype interview.
  • Step 4: Complete and submit registration form.
  • Step 5: Complete and sign training contract.
  • Step 6: Pay training fee in five installments.
  • Step 7: Course starts in January.

Pré-requis obligatoires

  • A degree equivalent to four years of higher education (corresponding to 240 ECTS in the European system), or
  • A validation of knowledge acquired through experience (VAPP, detailed below) – for applicants without a university degree who have been working for at least three years in one of the fields covered in the program (technical communication, information engineering, translation, project management, multimedia, web design, etc.).
  • A high level of fluency in English,
  • Good computer literacy skills,
  • A keen interest in the program contents, and
  • A strong work ethic.
