Description

Phonological Diversity in English: Regional Accents and Sociolinguistic Factors

This course examines the phonological differences in English, including regional accents and sociolinguistic influences. It is designed to help students prepare for the phonology section of the French Agrégation exam. Through linguistic analysis, students will study phonological patterns, pronunciation variations, and voice characteristics in American and British English accents. Practical exercises and in-depth exploration will enhance analytical skills, and students will (re)learn phonetic symbols for accurate transcription and analysis. By the end of the course, students will gain a strong understanding of the phonological systems of standard RP and GA accents, along with insights into regional and social variations.
