Description
This course examines the development of public communication (media relations), from the point of view of political institutions, journalists, and the media consumer.
The nine-hour programme analyses specifically political communication, the evolution of propaganda, the changing legacy media environment and the transformative rise of social media
Over three, three-hour sessions, the course will cover the needs of the journalist and the media spokesperson and will examine critically the impact of media communication on viewers, listeners and readers.
The similarities and differences between media relations in the United Kingdom and France, will also be key components of the syllabus.
Through practical examples, witness video and case studies focussed on real-world human rights communication dilemmas, students will enhance their understanding of how media relationships are built and sustained, in order that they recognise the requirements of each of the key media constituencies.
Practical training in writing communication plans and press releases, preparing press kits, managing press conferences, and exercises in crisis communication, will equip students with the skills needed for effective media relations.
